Scope and Contents

Vivian Escalante's collection consists of organizational and promotional material from the Los Angeles Dyke Marches ranging from 1997 to 2008. Material includes posters, flyers, graphics, finanical transactions, legal permits, and correspondences between organizers. Additionally, Escalante saved organizational material from her events with the Women Moto-cyclists of Southern California. Miscellaneous publications and ephemera, such as issues of Diva Magazine and Dyke March and motorcyclist t-shirts.

Biographical Note

Vivian Escalante is a lesbian activist based in Los Angeles. Escalante established the West Hollywood chapter of Dykes on Bikes in 1994, coordinated the Los Angeles Dyke Marches from 1998 to 2008, and created the first organization for Women Moto-cyclists of Southern California. Escalante also founded Dapper Dyke, an initiative promoting and educating masculine women and men on queer vintage fashion. Escalante received the L.A.C.E award given by the Lesbian and Bisexual Women Active in Community Empowerment.
