Bunny MacCulloch was born Nancy Winifred MacCulloch on August 13, 1928 in Salem, Massachusetts. A public figure even at a young age, she starred in school plays and won prizes for oration. She majored in journalism at Vermont Junior College in Montpelier for two years before traveling throughout Europe.

Bunny spent several years working in psychiatric facilities both public and private before moving into a position at the New York Public Library and working in a Grand Canyon Lodge before finally settling in Southern California during the mid 1960s.

For the next two decades, MacCulloch made her living as an independent film editor. She formed Cut! Productions with Joan Longdon in 1968 and later formed her own, Academy Leader Editorial in 1983. MacCulloch worked on documentaries, TV commercials, industrial films and government training films. Her films went on to be dubbed in seven languages and were distributed in 47 countries. They also received Gold Hugo Awards at the Chicago Film Festival, gold medals at the New York International TV and Film Festival, and Cine Golden Eagle Awards in the non-theatrical division the film industry sponsors.

MacCulloch joined the Southern California Women for Understanding (SCWU) in 1978, serving as their archivist, co-editing the newsletter and serving a two year term as secretary. It was at her second meeting for the SCWU that she met June Mazer, who became the love of her life until she died (also of cancer) in 1987. Together they adopted the West Coast Lesbian Collection of memorabilia, founded in San Francisco by Lynn Fanfa, Cherry Cox, and Claire Potter. Before she passed away, MacCulloch put in a tremendous amount of effort into cataloging the collections and acquiring more materials. Eventually it was put under the umbrella of the International Gay and Lesbian Archives, sponsored by Connexxus and named the June L. Mazer collection. The June L. Mazer Collection is now an independent and volunteer-run archive in Los Angeles, CA.

MacCulloch spent the last year of her life cataloging for the Mazer Collection. She also collected Indian artifacts and political buttons, participated in the annual Pasadena Doo-Dah parade, made bead jewelry, was a fantastic cook and was a lover of all animals. She also received the Community Service Award from SCWU in March 1988 and a proclamation from the City of West Hollywood on May 7, 1989. The acceptance of this award was to be her last public appearance. Bunny MacCulloch died of cancer in 1989.
