Scope and Contents

This collection includes plans, handouts, and correspondence from Lesbian Visibility Day, Lesbian Visibility Week, and Lesbian Visibility Month from 1993-2000. It also includes meeting notes, flyers, handouts, and correspondence from other events and meetings hosted by C.O.O.L from 1993-2000, as well as mailing lists, send-outs, and information regarding housing options for older gays and lesbians.

Biographical / Historical

The Coalition of Older Lesbians is an independent organization sponsored by the Community Outreach and Education Project of the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center in West Hollywood, CA. COOL's goal was to advance the visibility, health, and welfare of older lesbians, by providing opportunities for community-building, discussions, activities, and events centering lesbian experiences. C.O.O.L. hosted the yearly Lesbian Visibility Week and Lesbian Visibility Month from 1993-2000, as well as numerous other talks, events, and group meetings. C.O.O.L. also provided resources for gay and lesbian housing opportunities in Los Angeles.

Abstract

The Coalition of Older Lesbians (C.O.O.L.) was an independent community group of the Community Outreach and Education Project of the Gay and Lesbian Community Services Center in West Hollywood, CA, focused on visibility, welfare, and community development for older lesbians. This collection consists of the documents from Lesbian Visibility Week from 1993-2000 as well as other corespondence, meeting notes, flyers, and documents from other events.
