Scope and Contents

This collection consists of rundowns and CD's containing recordings of Rita Gonzales's radio show This Way Out, from April 2006 - May 2007. There are also CD's containing recordings of Rita Gonzales's later radio show The Out Agenda from 2012-2013, as well as related photographs. It also contains a copy of the manuscript for Eye to Eye written by Audre Lorde, a copy of Choose to Laugh, a compilation of comics and jokes published as a fundraising effort for the Feminist Majority Foundation, and Rita Gonzales's work uniform from her time as a line woman.

Biographical / Historical

Rita Gonzales is a Latina media figure, activist, arts and healthcare advocate, and former president of the Gay and Lesbian Latinos Unidos. Gonzales's work in radio began in 1986 with KPFK's "Radio GLLU" show, which she cohosted and edited for 11 years. She would continue to host This Way Out and The Out Agenda radio shows into the mid-2000s. She is the recipient of many awards for her activism, including the LA Gay and Lesbian Center’s LACE Award, the 2012 Ethridge Award, and a CSW/PRIDE annual honor. Gonzales also served as one of the first female telephone line installers in Los Angeles.

This collection consists of recordings and rundowns from two LGBTQ+ radio shows Gonzales hosted, This Way Out and The Out Agenda, an unpublished manuscript of Audre Lorde's piece Eye to Eye, and Choose to Laugh, a publication of comics from the Feminist Majority Foundation.
